The following working list of rare marine algae for Washington was prepared by Dr. Tom Mumford (Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Aquatic Resources Division), with contributions from Dr. Sandra Lindstrom (University of British Columbia), Dr. Megan Dethier (University of Washington, Friday Harbor Labs), Dr. Michael Hawkes (University of British Columbia) and Dr. J. Robert Waaland (University of Washington). Taxonomy was updated in May 2012 by Dr. Mumford and four species that do not occur in Washington were deleted from the list.
